Demand Agent

The Demand Agent is a working AI in the Data family of the FMCG Cloud Agent Taxonomy. It continuously senses demand signals across your route to market and keeps every forecast current — so planning, ordering and replenishment run on what's happening now, not on a number that was true last month.

What a Demand Agent does

Forecasting in consumer goods usually breaks at the seams between systems: sell-in lives in the ERP, sell-out lives in distributor and retail feeds, field reality lives in visit notes and shelf scans, and by the time someone reconciles them the demand picture is already stale. The Demand Agent removes that lag. Because it runs on the ConnectX data layer — the one data model every FMCG Cloud agent shares — it reads orders, shipments, returns, promotions, pricing changes, new-listing activity, out-of-stock signals and seasonality from a single, reconciled source rather than stitching exports together by hand.

In the field, the Demand Agent works at the grain that actually drives your business: SKU by outlet, by channel, by region. It detects demand signals as they emerge — a promotion lifting volume in one cluster of stores, a competitor void opening shelf space, a price move changing velocity, a chronic out-of-stock suppressing true demand — and updates the forecast for the affected items automatically. It flags the difference between real softening and a stockout masking demand, separates baseline from promotional uplift, and surfaces the exceptions that need a human decision instead of asking a planner to re-run the whole model.

Those refreshed forecasts don't sit in a report — they feed the rest of the route to market on the same data model. The Demand Agent's numbers become the demand baseline that suggested-order, replenishment, production-planning and route agents build on, so a signal sensed at the shelf can move through ordering and supply without anyone re-keying it. As a Data-family agent, its job is to keep the demand truth current and trustworthy for every commercial and operations workflow downstream, and like every solution in the marketplace it must earn FMCG Verified certification before it can carry the Demand Agent name.

Why it matters on one data model

Forecast error is one of the most expensive problems in FMCG distribution: over-forecast and you tie up cash in inventory and write-offs, under-forecast and you lose the sale to an empty shelf and hand the facing to a competitor. The Demand Agent matters because it shortens the distance between a real-world demand signal and an updated plan from weeks to near-continuous, and it does so on the same data model that ordering, replenishment and field execution already run on — so a better forecast actually changes what gets ordered and stocked, instead of being a more accurate number that no downstream system reads.

It also matters because the demand picture stops depending on whoever happens to maintain the spreadsheet. With the Demand Agent sensing signals and keeping forecasts current automatically, planners spend their time on the genuine exceptions and trade-offs the agent surfaces, FMCG Cloud Intelligence has a consistent demand baseline to reason over, and every team from supply to sales is working from the same version of what customers are about to buy.
