Pricing Agent

The Pricing Agent is a working AI in the Commercial family of the FMCG Cloud Agent Taxonomy. It recommends concrete price moves — list, promotional and channel-specific — inside the guardrails your revenue team sets, then hands each move to the systems that take orders and execute at the shelf.

What a Pricing Agent does

The Pricing Agent reads the same picture the rest of your route to market runs on: distributor invoices and stock, sell-through by outlet and SKU, active promotions, competitor moves seen on the shelf, and the cost and margin position behind every line. Because all of that resolves to one data model on the ConnectX data layer, the agent prices the actual outlet in front of it — not a regional average or a last-quarter spreadsheet. It surfaces where price is leaving margin on the table, where a list or promo price is out of step with the channel, and where a move would lift revenue without breaking the trade terms you've committed to.

Every recommendation lands inside guardrails you define — floors and ceilings, minimum margin, channel and customer-tier rules, price-family relationships, and the promo calendar — so the agent never proposes a move that violates policy or undercuts a protected channel. Each suggested change comes with the why: the elasticity signal, the margin and volume trade-off, and the comparable outlets or SKUs behind it. Your pricing or RGM owner reviews, approves or overrides, and the decision flows straight into the suggested order, the rep's brief and the B2B storefront — so the approved price is the price that actually reaches the store, not a number stranded in a pricing tool.

Crucially, the loop closes. Once a price move runs, the agent watches what happened — basket size, volume, margin, channel mix, whether the move held or got discounted away in the field — and feeds that back into the next recommendation. Pricing stops being a once-a-year exercise in a deck and becomes a continuously graded decision that adapts as cost, demand and competition shift.

Why it matters on one data model

In consumer goods, price is the single fastest lever on margin and the easiest one to leave misaligned — list prices drift, promotions repeat out of habit, and channel rules live in someone's head. The Pricing Agent matters because it turns pricing from a periodic, manual reconciliation into a governed, always-on decision that reaches the shelf through the same data model your reps, orders and routes already use, with humans firmly in control of the guardrails.

Because it runs on one data model and must earn FMCG Verified certification to list in the marketplace, the Pricing Agent is held to the same evidence, security and interoperability bar as every other agent in the FMCG Cloud taxonomy — so a price move isn't an isolated output, it's a decision the whole route to market can see, trust and act on the same day.
