Promo Agent
The Promo Agent is the working AI that plans your trade promotions, simulates them before a dollar is committed, and flags the ones that lose money before they reach the shelf. It sits in the Commercial family of the FMCG Cloud Agent Taxonomy, on the ConnectX data layer — so every promotion is graded against the same sell-through, pricing and execution data the rest of your route to market runs on.
What a Promo Agent does
The Promo Agent designs and optimises trade promotions for consumer-goods brands and distributors, then scores every mechanic before it runs. It pulls baseline volume, promoted price points, list-price gaps, distributor margins and historical lift from the ConnectX data model, and simulates each promotion — buy-one-get-one, temporary price reduction, gondola feature, multi-buy, display incentive — against what comparable activity actually did in the field. Where a deal is predicted to erode margin, cannibalise base volume, or simply forward-buy demand without growing the category, the Promo Agent flags it as margin-negative and shows the assumptions behind the call, so RGM and trade-marketing teams approve, adjust or kill it with evidence rather than instinct.
Because it shares one data model with the rest of the route to market, the Promo Agent works across the full promotion lifecycle instead of stopping at a plan on a spreadsheet. Promotions it approves can flow into segment-aware suggested orders, so the right outlets see the right mechanic at the right price; promotion calendars and price points reach the field-sales brief and the B2B ordering basket without re-keying. The agent reconciles planned spend against the deals that actually shipped, tracks redemption and uplift as sell-through lands, and tightens its own forecasts each cycle — so the next promotion plan is graded against your real history, not a generic benchmark.
The Promo Agent is built to optimise a portfolio, not just rubber-stamp individual deals. It compares mechanics within and across customers, identifies where trade spend is concentrated in promotions that move volume but not profit, and surfaces the swaps — a shallower discount, a different SKU, a tighter outlet list — that protect margin while holding sell-through. It works alongside the other Commercial-family agents (Order, Pricing and Segmentation), so a promotion is planned against the same customer segments your pricing guardrails and suggested orders already use, and post-promo proof can be checked against what really happened on the shelf.
Why it matters on one data model
In FMCG, a large share of trade-promotion investment is a structurally significant line on the P&L, and a well-known share of it is estimated across the industry to fail to deliver a positive return — money committed to deals that forward-buy demand, train shoppers to wait for the discount, or quietly run below margin. The cost of a bad promotion is rarely visible until the spend is gone, because planning, pricing, ordering and execution usually live in disconnected systems that never reconcile the deal that was designed against the deal that actually shipped. The Promo Agent closes that gap: it turns promotion planning from a hopeful spreadsheet into a model that gets graded, catching margin-negative activity before launch and learning from every cycle.
Every Promo Agent listed in the marketplace — first-party or partner — runs on the same ConnectX data model and must earn FMCG Verified certification, so its simulations are built on harmonised distributor, pricing and sell-through data rather than a siloed export, and its margin and lift logic is checked against the standards of the FMCG Cloud Agent Taxonomy. With FMCG Cloud Intelligence reading the same canonical data underneath, the promotion you approve is the promotion the field executes, the orders reflect, and the platform measures — one loop, one number, no hand-offs.
