Shelf Agent

The Shelf Agent reads a retail shelf from a single photo and turns what it sees into action — recognising every SKU, scoring planogram compliance, catching voids and competitor moves, then triggering the reorder, the task or the route stop that fixes the shelf. It is an Execution-family agent type on FMCG Cloud, certified FMCG Verified and running on the ConnectX data layer that every other agent shares.

What a Shelf Agent does

The Shelf Agent does the work a field auditor and a merchandiser do, from one image. Point a phone at a fixture and the agent identifies each facing — own brands, competitor products, promotional displays, price points where visible — and resolves them against the planogram and the assortment the outlet is supposed to carry. Out-of-stocks, voids, share-of-shelf, planogram breaks and misplaced SKUs come back as structured findings in seconds, not as a folder of photos someone has to review by hand later.

Where most image recognition stops at a report, the Shelf Agent is built to trigger corrections. A void on a must-stock line becomes a suggested reorder for the outlet. A compliance break becomes a task routed to the next rep or merchandiser due in store. A new competitor facing or a missing promo display becomes an alert the rest of the platform can act on. Because it runs on the ConnectX data layer rather than in a silo, each finding flows straight into the field-sales visit brief, the B2B order, the delivery route and the promotion record — so a shelf problem the Shelf Agent spots in the morning is already on someone's worklist before the store closes.

For the route to market this means perfect-store and retail-execution programs that actually change the store instead of measuring it. The Shelf Agent gives sales reps, merchandisers, distributor partners and brand teams the same objective read of the shelf, store by store and visit by visit, and it keeps that read current as new photos arrive. As an FMCG Verified agent type, it classifies cleanly under the FMCG Cloud Agent Taxonomy, so a brand can adopt it on its own or compose it with other Execution and Commercial agents without stitching together separate tools or data models.

Why it matters on one data model

In consumer goods, the shelf is where the strategy is won or lost, and it is the hardest place to see at scale — thousands of outlets, constantly shifting facings, and audits that arrive too late to act on. The Shelf Agent matters because it collapses the distance between seeing a problem and fixing it: the same photo that detects the void writes the reorder, opens the task and flags the route. That is the difference between a dashboard that reports on execution and an agent that does it.

Running on one shared data model, the Shelf Agent compounds with everything around it. Its findings make field-sales visits sharper, suggested orders more accurate, routes more relevant and promotion proof verifiable — and because every solution on FMCG Cloud earns FMCG Verified certification against the same Agent Taxonomy, a team can trust that the Shelf Agent does exactly the execution job it claims, and plug it into the rest of the route to market with confidence.
